Comparing Holmium (Ho): YAG Laser with Pneumatic Lithoclast for Treatment Efficacy of Ureteric Stones

ABSTRACT Background: Holmium YAG (yttrium-aluminum-garnet) laser, a comparatively new technique, can clear all types and sizes of stones is only being used in two institutes Karachi, Pakistan. The study aimed to compare pneumatic lithoclast holmium evaluate stone-free rate (SFR), postoperative complications, operative duration, effectiveness. Methods: This cross-sectional research included 60 patients with age 16-65 years having ureteric stones, reporting kidney center, Urology Department, CT Scan Kidneys, Ureter, Bladder (KUB) were record stone size, laterality, location within the ureter. Patients divided into clusters 30 each, group A (Ho: laser) B (pneumatic Lithoclast) 0.5 02 cm size stones. An Independent two-sample “t” test was assess difference for continuous variables. p-value ≤0.05 considered statistically significant. Results: Stone distribution 1.3±0.3cms 1.4±0.3cms groups respectively (p=0.8). insignificance demonstrated no substantial divergence between both sizes. Clearance from proximal ureter noted 26(84.6%) 41.7% (p<0.05). reduced lithotripsy activation period 30.8±3.7mins associated Conclusion: Holmium: Laser had better 84% clearance than pneumatic.
